Green VPN ("the Extension") is a Chrome extension that routes your browser traffic through a proxy server so you can browse from a different location. This page explains what data the Extension accesses and how it is used.
What the Extension does
- Changes Chrome's proxy settings to route your browser traffic through one of our proxy servers, based on the location you choose.
- Automatically authenticates your browser to that proxy server so you don't see a login prompt.
- Fetches the current list of available server locations from our backend (vpn.greenhole.app) so new locations appear without an extension update.
What we store
- Your connection state and selected location are stored locally in Chrome's storage on your own device (
chrome.storage.local). This never leaves your device except as part of connecting to the proxy itself. - We do not log, collect, or sell your browsing history, the websites you visit, or your search queries.
Network traffic
When connected, your Chrome browser traffic is routed through our proxy server infrastructure in order to provide the location-changing function. Standard proxy-server logs (such as connection timestamps and data volume, used only for abuse prevention and service reliability) may be kept temporarily by the proxy infrastructure, the same way any VPN/proxy service operates.
Third parties
The Extension may briefly contact a small number of public IP-lookup services (e.g. ipify.org, ifconfig.me) through the active proxy tunnel, only to display your new exit IP address in the popup. No personal data is sent to these services beyond a standard IP address lookup request.
Permissions
- proxy — required to route your browser traffic through the selected location.
- webRequest / webRequestAuthProvider — required to authenticate your browser to the proxy server automatically, without showing a login popup.
- storage — required to remember your connection state and selected location on your own device.
- host_permissions (all sites) — required so the proxy and authentication apply to every site you visit, not just a fixed list.
